Marni Drecshel

I fell in love with volleyball as a 7th grade athlete who was tired of playing soccer in the cold, wet Puget Sound area. Needing something to do before basketball season, I stumbled into the gym for volleyball tryouts and haven’t been the same since.

A native of Washington, I graduated from Edmonds High School in 1990 earning 9 varsity letters in 3 sports. Besides receiving individual awards, the highlight of my high school career was to compete in the State Tournament as a junior.

I was also blessed to have the opportunity to play on several ambassador teams to Hong Kong, Seoul Korea, Mexico City and Acapulco. This international experience not only fueled my desire to compete at the next level, but provided me with insight that I draw from as a coach.

Encouraged to follow my passion, I was fortunate to play volleyball for Skagit Valley College and Pacific Lutheran University.

Professional

I am proud to work full-time at Cedar Park Christian School (Bothell Campus) as the Library Coordinator and Student Services Director/Instructor. Daily, I work directly with students K-12 who have a variety if learning aptitudes, challenges and needs. Not only do I embrace this position, but I am inspired by those I work alongside.

Personal

I am proud to be married to Tom Drechsel and mother to Trey and Samantha. My family and I are avid sports fans and participants. When not coaching or playing volleyball, I can be found in the stands with my husband cheering on Trey (WWU Basketball) and Samantha (WVBA) in their own athletic endeavors. My hobbies include reading, drawing and losing at card games (Cribbage in particular). My favorite place on Earth is Lake Chelan and my favorite food is Starbucks coffee:-)

Coaching Philisophy

I believe that an athlete and team’s success is in direct proportion to two things: Attitude and Effort. Show me hustle and I will see a player’s heart. Having passion for the game will inspire a work ethic and drive that cannot help but produce results. With a team of athletes committed to each other and the process of getting better, the potential for success is great. As a coach, my job is to teach the technical, tactical and fundamental elements of the sport with clarity and consistency. I believe in my players and set the bar high. I insist upon teamwork, respect and believe that encouragement is the best, most effective means to the greatest end. Not only will results follow on the court, but life lessons will be learned and strong character will be built.
